Peaky Blinders is a BBC2 Original Series based on an actual gang in the 1900s. Starring Cillian Murphy, Annabelle Wallis, Helen McCrory, and Sam Neill, Peaky Blinders is a fun and engaging show to end your year with. Watch the first two seasons on Netflix now!
- Cillian Murphy
Cillian Murphy knows he can be a scary guy. From Scarecrow in Batman Begins to Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders, his acting is ferocious and enticing. But it definitely helps that he is easy on the eyes as well!
- The soundtrack
Instead of typical early 1900s ballads, Blinders throws modern rock n roll at the viewers. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Arctic Monkeys, and PJ Harvey are a few of the artists consistently featured in the show. Oddly enough, it tends to work well, as the power chords play alongside various murders, crimes, and conversations.
- Annabelle Wallis
Wallis portrays Grace Burgess in the show and she is stunning in the BBC2 show. Not to throw out too many spoilers, but she goes from annoying double-agent bar tender to a behind the scenes heroine.
Why do they call themselves the “Peaky Blinders?” Some historians believe it is because many members of the gang stitched razors into the peaks of their hats, which they used to injure their rivals.
- History
Peaky Blinders is actually based off of a real life gang in the 1900s. While the series is obviously romanticized, the basic history of the show is interesting and tries to be as accurate as it can. Plus, it’s fun when you hear the characters talk about actual problems and political issues that were happening during that time.
- The accents
When I first started watching Peaky Blinders I had to put the subtitles on. The thick British accents were not something I was used to hearing! With a show like Peaky Blinders, the accents of the gang members is as important to the story as the impeccable language is to a show like Downton Abbey.
