Celebrities, like Zac Efron and Chris Hemsworth, are raising awareness to a very important organization called The Polished Man. According to their website, “1 in 5 children fall victim to physical or sexual violence before they turn 18.” The Polished Man is working to end their suffering once and for all.
The purpose of this charity is to work with men to support the end of violence against children. Why men? Because “90% of all sexual violence against children is perpetrated by men.”
You may be wondering, why nail polish? “Being a Polished Man means you don’t turn your back on the vulnerable. You raise your voice – and nail – to say, ‘not on my watch’. You embrace the smirks and know it doesn’t matter; there are worse things than being embarrassed by a little mani. Because nailing it isn’t about shouting the first round, or how much you lift. Nailing it is saying no to violence against children,” according to The Polished Man’s website.
The fact that these men are raising awareness to this cause is very impressive. But I also think it’s worth mentioning that they are putting social norms aside and not allowing themselves to be embarrassed by a painted nail.
We live in a society that is so quick to label someone when they do something against the normal. It’s very refreshing to see these men, who are thought to be some of the best looking men in the world, stand for something and show the world that they don’t care what others think. This cause is important enough to advertise and I’m happy to see it!
