This Simple Mindset Shift Can Help Drastically Improve Your Life
Over the last year, I’ve invested a lot of time and energy into improving my mindset. Between books, workshops, podcasts, and other educational platforms, I’ve learned about the importance of self-awareness and the impact it has on our daily lives.
Self-awareness is defined as conscious knowledge of one’s own character, feelings, motives, and desires. It’s simply your ability to better understand yourself. While it might seem like an obvious human characteristic, the reality is, most humans rarely practice it.
In today’s busy and non-stop world, it can be easy to fall victim to the hamster wheel of routines and everyday tasks. We go about our days without acknowledging our feelings, doubts, or concerns. This can tend to lead to anxiety, depression, and unfulfillment in life.
Slowing down is essential when attempting to improve one’s self-awareness. If you find your mind constantly racing and overthinking, consider meditating or taking a break to relax your mind. By slowing down, you give your mind permission to dig deep and bring out any lingering feelings that have gone unnoticed.
By improving your self-awareness, you’re more likely to uncover buried feelings that have been holding you back in life. For me, self-awareness has gotten me out of dark times in my life. By being self-aware, I’ve been able to recognize when something or someone is not serving me. Whether that means I have to walk away, or I have to dismiss those people out of my life, I respect myself and recognize the situation enough to do it.
Self-awareness also has the opposite effect. By being more conscious about my motives and desires, I’ve been able to pave new roads for myself. It allows me to walk away from projects that weren’t serving me and creating opportunities that fulfilled me.
If you find yourself lost, confused, or in an unhappy place, consider focusing on your self-awareness. Simple tasks like slowing down, taking breaks, and journaling can all help you reach a higher level of consciousness.
