On Sunday, the red carpet was rolled out to welcome some of the most talented and famous actors, actresses, directors and more. That can only mean one thing, ladies and gentleman. I am happy to announce it is officially that time of year again: award season! What better way to start the season than with the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards, a star-studded affair featuring metallics, high-low hemlines and even a few baby bumps. Here are some of the trendiest looks we saw on the red carpet this year.
Black and White
A popular trend on the Spring 2014 runways was the always elegant contrast of black and white. The two opposing colors look great on any shape, height or size. The case was no different for stars such as Allison Williams and Jenna Dewan-Tatum at the Golden Globes.
Metallic
Metallics have made numerous appearances on red carpets and other events this past year. Other than being able to stand out on the runway and red carpet, metallics act as the accessory to an outfit. Notice how actresses such as Kate Beckinsale and Mila Kunis wore silver gowns with their hair up and minimal jewelry.
High-Low Hemline
Once referred to as the mullet hemline, this popular 2012-2013 trend has made its way back onto the red carpet another year. This specific hemline adds something new to a sea of long trains and A-line cuts often seen at celebrity events such as the Golden Globes. My favorite part about high-low gowns, however, is that it showcases the shoes. Sandra Bullock paired her color-blocked gown with a strappy black heel, while Zooey Deschanel opted for a feminine pearl-embroidered stiletto.
Red Hot
Every year, a few stars choose to be bold and wear a red gown. Unfortunately, they usually end up blending into the carpet. The 2014 Golden Globes showed a change of pace, thanks to stunning celebrities Amy Adams and Lupita Nyong’o. Both went with fashion forward looks that seemed to be made just for them. Nyong’o’s off-the-shoulder caped gown flattered not only her figure, but her flawless complexion. Adam’s two-toned dress flowed effortlessly on the carpet as well, per usual.
Maternity Gowns
The 71st Annual Golden Globes also welcomed a few expecting mothers to the carpet: Kerry Washington, Olivia Wilde and Drew Barrymore. Each mom-to-be radiated on the red carpet, pairing their natural glow and smiling faces with dresses that accentuated their baby bumps. Washington wore an all white dress with an overlay surrounding her bump. Wilde went for a tighter look in a stunning emerald green sequined gown, hugging her belly like a proud momma.
