As many of you know our Smartfem team has a great working relationship with Dr. Liz Cruz and Tina Nunziato, certified holistic nutritionist, of Dr. Liz Cruz Partners in Digestive Health. Not a bad connection to have when you are in need of a little stomach ache advice. Especially if you are me. Because they are so invested in helping people live healthy lives and keep their digestive system on track I felt that it was appropriate to bring to light something that is often looked over; autism. Apparently digestive issues in individuals with autism is a lot more common than anyone would have thought and thus why Dr. Cruz wanted to talk about it. April is Autism Awareness Month, so what better excuse to shed light on this disorder.
According to Dr. Cruz’s research, “one percent of the world population has autism spectrum disorder…the prevalence in the United States is estimated at 1 in 68 births.” While Dr. Cruz does not want to insinuate that she is against vaccines, she does think there is a lot of room for research before allowing babies to be given so many at a young age. She states, “there has been a good deal of rumblings recently about how safe vaccines are, especially for kids (causing autism), but also for adults.” Two of the vaccines that Cruz says are “under scrutiny” are the HPV and MMR vaccines. Auto-immune disease is another disease that has been on the rise as well since mass vaccinations.
Clearly this is not something that happens to everyone, but there is a chance that it could happen to your child or yourself, so always do your research. Dr. Cruz states, “I think it will eventually be found that not everyone is at risk from even the worst of the vaccines, but our genetic makeup will make some people more susceptible than others.” Cruz states that the problem isn’t necessarily the vaccines, but the way they are administered. Vaccines are given to all babies and children without any regard to the differences between people. According to Dr. Cruz in order for things to change the CDC needs to admit there is a problem, which currently has not even been a glimmer in the CDC’s mind.
The article linked here is suggested by Dr. Liz Cruz about the dangers of the MMR vaccine. According to the film, VAXXED, while real data the CDC had showed a correlation between the MMR vaccine and autism, they changed some numbers around to allude the opposite. A frightening thought really. If you cannot trust the people in charge of keeping the country healthy, who can you trust?
Though Dr. Liz Cruz’s office does not deal with autism itself, their connection with helping the digestive system of these individuals gave them a great way to help what is going on in their bellies. Cruz states, “We want to be a resource for you and your family members that have children with autism.” And she suggests these readings to further your knowledge.
