When Sucking-In Stops Working

SmartFem’s Phoenix plastic surgery expert Dr. Richard Joseph Brown “Dr. Rick” continues our series on plastic surgery with the topic of abdominoplasty.

Let’s face it – Arizona is a pretty health conscious place to live. With our beautiful mountains and ideal climate, fit bodies abound and are hard to miss. Healthy food is easy to find, and gyms, parks and hiking trails are packed with those trying to maintain their fitness.

However for some, diet and exercise alone stop working. Sometimes, there are stubborn areas on our bodies that just don’t respond. Luckily, you have options.

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure for removing excess skin and fat from the abdominal area. A tummy tuck also involves tightening the “six-pack” – the muscles that are often stretched out and bulging in women who have been pregnant. This tightening results in a flatter and tighter tummy. Liposuction is often used in conjunction with this procedure to blend the surrounding areas (flanks, hips and thighs).

What about stretch marks? Typically, a patient with stretch marks will require a tummy tuck rather than liposuction to achieve ideal abdominal re-contouring. Excess skin is removed, and the muscles and skin are pulled tight to flatten both the upper and lower abdomen.

If sit-ups, crunches and that no-carb diet are failing to achieve the look you want, consider tummy tuck surgery.
