But…it doesn’t matter! We are hooked on social media because it’s a way to show other’s what we are up to on a daily basis. Our outfit of the day, food of the hour, and night time activities- no matter how appropriate, are posted for our friends to see…all 100o of them. But, it could actually be many more than that! Our friends could show their friends and their friends could show their friends and so on and so on. Be honest-how many of your friends pictures and statuses have you shared with another person? Your mother? Your best friend? Even if your profiles aren’t open to the public; members of the public could still see it.
Which is why I urge you all to think about what you post before you actually post it. The image of your underage self drinking out of a bottle of champagne…don’t post it! The selfie you snapped of yourself topless in the mirror…don’t post it! Statuses about making “reckless decisions” because it’s the weekend…don’t post it! I know you have heard this before, but what you put up on your social media will be there forever. Think of all the screenshots people take and the pictures they save. How hard would it be for someone to save a picture of an “inappropriate” image you posted…?
We live in a world where people are constantly judging one another. It’s not right but it’s what happens. Posting promiscuous images and creating scandalous statuses doesn’t mean you are a bad person. But, it would be easy for someone to form an opinion of you based solely off of your social media. If an employer had to choose between someone who was fully clothed in their profile picture or someone in a bikini holding two solo cups…who would they pick? Who would you pick if you were making that decision? Exactly.
I am not saying to not have fun. Just think twice before posting something that could define the rest of you life!
