Is it creepy or smart to google a potential suitor before a first date?
I say… CREEPY! Well maybe not creepy but a little too much a little too fast. I understand how attractive it can be to do a simple google search. We are constantly on our phones anyway, it wouldn’t be as if we are going out of our way. Right?
A quick search through their social media sites can tell us everything we need to know about a person. Are they a lying cheater? A vegan? Still living on their parents’ couch without any prospects? NEXT. Why waste your time if you know date number 2 will never happen?
I get why people feel the need to google a potential suitor. But, I still wouldn’t do it! I want to get to know someone in real life. I want them to tell me they have a dog instead of learning it by stalking their Instagram page. I mean, isn’t the point of a first date to get to know someone? Why even go on the date if I already know everything? To catch them in a lie? I prefer to not be a detective interrogating my perpetrator over a nice romantic meal. What about you?
I don’t always google someone before a first date because I don’t always know their first and last name. But if I do, I definitely stalk their Instagram and Facebook if they are public. What can I say? I’m nosy.
The last date I went on the guy had obviously been looking through my social media sites. He asked me how my sister was and when she graduates from University of San Diego. I was very uncomfortable.
Usually if I am going on a date with someone I have been talking to them long enough to be friends on social media sites. And if that’s the case, I have probably already done my fair share of creeping.
How can you not look someone up before a date? They could be a serial killer or something!
I don’t want to google someone before a first date. I don’t want to ruin the mystery.
So…is it creepy or smart to google someone before a first date? I guess it depends on who you ask. All I know is, the idea of someone sitting on their computer or iPhone looking up all my information before our first date CREEPS ME OUT! But at the same time, I know it’s important to be safe and know who you are about to spend time with. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
