There’s a stigma behind the millennial generation that I would like to address. For some reason, people are under the impression that millennials are lazy! There’s a rumor going around that millennials don’t know what it means to “work hard.” People think that we expect everything to be handed to us on a silver platter. Oh please! There may be a few individuals in this generation that are lazy, but that can be said about any generation out there. Laziness isn’t a generational trait! My fellow millennials and I would like to clear the air now and tell you why it’s an insult to be classified as “the lazy generation.”
“I think that it’s unfair that millennials are considered to be lazy when we live in a time where now, everyone is college educated, everyone is experienced and employers are always looking for the next best thing. It’s almost as if we have to be more driven than past generations in order to reach even minimal success”– Quinn, 19
“You’re completely false, but at the end of the day, you’re the parents who worked hard to provide us with anything and everything”- Austin, 23
“I think it’s very naive for people to call us lazy. The thing is, we’re not lazy- we’re just trying to utilize all the things we have available to us. I think a lot of people don’t realize that things just go faster in this day and age” – Kierra, 22
“We may sit on the couch and surf our phones but why wouldn’t we? Every news and info outlet we need is at our finger tips. I don’t think we’re lazy, I think we utilize technology in a different way” – Cameron, 27
“We aren’t lazy, we’ve just been given more opportunities than the generation before us” – Jerome, 23
“Before you call us lazy, look at all the battles millennials have to deal with today that other generations didn’t have! A high cost of living, large student loans, a crippling economy, ridiculously competitive work force, and society’s judgmental culture” – Martha, 23
If you ask me, I think it’s incredibly ignorant to call us lazy. Don’t call me lazy! I’m a 23 year old grad student, working two jobs, all while trying to live my life to the fullest. You try being a young adult in this day in age- so much is happening, it’s hard to keep it together all the time.
